The Lesson of Being

Last evening upon laying down on my bed and closing my eyes, I began to journey into a vision very quickly. I had not meditated, or even planned, it just happened. The lesson I was taught was so important, I felt the need to share it with you all.

My Journey

My journey began in what appeared to be the ruins of an old castle or cathedral, I don’t know which, but it was old stone and overgrown with vines – I remember seeing ivy, but also blooming vines. The passage was below ground, a hallway of sorts, but no roof. The floor was stone as well as the sides, and every once in a while I viewed arches of stone above me. I turned a corner and headed up very worn stairs and into a garden. There was a path through the garden filled with colorful flowers and trees; it was very peaceful. I followed the path and proceeded to move through various terrain – more gardens, paths, along water sources, into a forest; everything in more detail than I’ve ever had in a vision. It was like a movie, with the camera panning in and out on the details. I could see the moss growing on rocks and the vibrant colors and play of sunlight and darkness, and make out the nuances of each place.

Through it all I remained on a meandering path. Within the various terrain, I noticed various animals in the distance. I did see human looking figures but they appeared more cartoonish, very thin stick people, just a basic person’s shape in black outline moving about, stark contrast to the vivid details of the world around me. I saw a lot of deer, as well as butterflies, dragonflies, and other things that I wasn’t sure what they were, as some looked like one animal then seemed to shift into another. I began to think, well if I’m on this journey let me ask something of it, and I asked, “Please let me meet either my spirit guide or find a power animal”.

I kept walking, and for a little while after I’d asked that, I noticed even more dragonflies around me. They were buzzing about, various sizes, even landing on branches and flowers near me. At one point it appeared that I was surrounded by glassy wings like a picture of me on the path with a rounded vignette of dragonfly wings framing me on the path.

Soon after that experience, I realized I had moved into a darker part of the forest, though it didn’t give off a haunted or scary feeling, just a thick canopy above and darker than the area I’d been in before. I saw a figure ahead of me in a small grove wearing a black cloak with hood, I couldn’t see the face, but I knew it was a woman. She was standing in front of a small bonfire, the flames reaching up in a tall column to about her waist. I could see the firelight play about her form but the light never revealed her face. I noticed many ravens, crows and smaller black birds perched all around us. They were on the ground, on branches, everywhere I looked there were birds.

I approached and asked her who she was. This is when I started speaking out loud, both sides of the conversation. (I am sure I woke my husband, as he rolled over and made a noise, so I started speaking more softly!) She said that I knew who she was, and that she was known by many names and that she comes in many forms. I asked if she was Morrigan, and she replied “I am the Morrigu; the maiden, mother, crone.” She then began to name a list of other names she is known by, a long list and stated very quickly. I tried to remember the list of names, but I couldn’t make out when one name ended and another began. I did hear the second name, and it sounded like “Bay” and then something like “Nevin” further in the list, which I remember because it sounded like a boy’s name. Some of the names further down the list gave me the impression they were from various cultures and lands, of names she was known by through time and in different places.

I was overwhelmed and thought I need to get a message if it’s being offered, so I said out loud, “I am open and ready to hear the message you have for me,” and she said “To defeat the anger, be the anger. To defeat the sadness, be sad. To defeat the sickness, be the sickness. To defeat the sickness, be the sickness. To defeat the anger, be the anger. To defeat the boredom, be bored. Be. You must be. To defeat the sickness, be the sickness,” she kept repeating the last part several times, putting emphasis on the sickness part even if she added other things a few times.

I thought about it and said, “Does this mean that I need to stop fighting against being sick and just BE sick? Stop being so aggravated. That I need to just take each day as it comes, and learn the lesson each day from being sick?” She nodded. She also said, “Stop being a fucking baby.” Harsh, Battle Queen, very harsh. Then she told me that she was watching me, that all the crows and ravens around my house are her eyes watching me and that she was always there, always had been there. I wondered why the crows were involved as I thought she was more raven than crow, but I felt protected and appreciative. Then I began to return very quickly, going back through the terrain until the vision simply ended.

The Take-Away

I’ve only just begun to truly think about what this vision means to me, and to others. I discussed it with a few friends, and then my mother for feedback. My mother told me this was something I needed to share with others. I agreed.

I feel like it was a message to stop fighting against what is going on and just “BE”. The first thing she said was to defeat the anger, be the anger. Which to me, means, if you are angry stop telling yourself it’s bad and wrong to be angry and stop trying to push it down. Be with the anger, know it’s ok to be angry, hold space for the anger and honor it. Allow yourself to deal with the anger, then move on.

As I am currently dealing with illness that has made it difficult for me to do much more than rest, with others taking care of me, I have been struggling with feeling like a burden for about a week now. I’ve been thinking about my jobs, my clients, my work companions, friends and responsibilities. I have felt trapped in this sickness, unable to complete what I need to do. Defeated. That was the exact word I’ve been using for several days. But she said, verbatim, “to defeat the sickness, be the sickness”. How incredible is this lesson? BE the sickness. Take each day, and just be freakin’ sick. Learn the lesson each hour, each day brings while you are sick. It’s ok to be sick. To just be sick each day as it comes, is to defeat the sickness. To sit with your anger, or sit with your sadness, or with your disappointment, or with your lack of a partner, your loneliness, your insecurity – to sit with it instead of fighting against it so much, is how you overcome these things. To simply BE.

I was curious about the names of the Morrigan I’d heard, so a friend and I did some research. I wasn’t familiar with “Bay” but it turns out one of her names or aspects is Badh Catha (from my research could be pronounced Bive Ca-ha), which could be me hearing “Bay” as she was reciting her names. Also Nevin could have been Nemain (pronounced Neh-mon) which I possibly heard as Nevin. Interestingly, Badh Catha means “battle crow” as Badh is the word for crow.

I am clairvoyant, some points in my life it’s been a blessing and some points a curse, as have all of my gifts and talents. I’ve been labeled as a sinful heathen, as well as been respected for my spiritual insight – sometimes at the same time in my life. I am sure anyone with certain gifts has felt this way, regardless of what spiritual path you walk.

I have visions, take spiritual journeys, and deal with the spirit world a lot in my life. But, I have never had a vision this crystal clear in its entirety. My mother thinks that perhaps due to my illness I received this vision so clearly partly because of my diet, since I’ve been eating only things that agree with my sensitivities during the past 7 or so days so far. Also, no red meat, as I had one little bite and it bothered my throat. Only chicken, fruit, veggies, rice, coconut, eggs, lots of tea and water. So, in a sense, my system is cleaner so perhaps I am able to channel my gifts better. It is something to think about. Also, yesterday I ended up needing a steroid shot due to complications with whatever is going on with me (shingles is one thing, but not all apparently), and that night is when I had this clear vision, so anything that was giving me allergic reactions was possibly swept clean by the steroid shot giving me more clear thinking.

Whatever allowed this incredible teaching journey to happen in such clarity, I am grateful. I feel like this is a divine channeled message that is meant for more than me. It is truly a watershed moment for me, giving me deeper insight into the idea of not “doing”, but “being”. Thank you, Morrigan, for the continued guidance this aspect of the Divine Source grants me. Thank you to all who have been praying, sending healing energy, and continued support and encouragement to me to continue on my path and recover quickly.

To defeat the sickness, be the sickness.
To defeat the anger, be the anger.
To defeat the boredom, be bored.
To defeat loneliness, be lonely.
To defeat sadness, be sad.
To defeat it, be it.

7 Ways to Empower the Wise Woman Within You!

The idea of a wise woman may bring different visions to different people. For me, the wise woman evokes the image of a woman who has learned from every experience in her life and come out on the other side a resilient beacon of wisdom and light to those around her, and to herself. She is powerful, and everyone who comes in contact with her can feel that powerful energy around her. Resilience is key to empowering the wise woman inside of each of us. Think of a tree in the midst of a winter storm, that bends but does not break. That is resilience, and when we learn to weather the storms of life without breaking, we have pulled the power of our inner wise woman to the surface.

The Wise Woman archetype is not something that only older women are able to gain access, we all have these wellsprings of power inside of us that merely need to be cultivated and drawn out. Here are seven ways that you can start empowering and drawing out your inner wise woman today.

  1. Do something for yourself every day that makes you happy.
    There is nothing selfish about self-care. If you do not fill your inner “cup”, then how are you able to give to those around you? The best way to start a self-care routine and to transform negative thinking around doing things for yourself is to start doing something on a routine basis that is just for you. It doesn’t have to cost anything, and it doesn’t have to take up a lot of time. The goal is getting into the practice of taking time every single day to engage in something that is simply done to make you feel good and fill that cup of happiness within. There are some great ideas for self-care here.
  1. Listen to your intuition.
    The wise woman within is really another name for your divine intuition. We are all born with the capacity for that still small voice inside of us to guide us in our daily lives, but often along the way of our life’s path, we tune that voice out. Our intuition is still there, but buried under negative thoughts about our own capabilities, or societal misunderstandings.Learning to listen to your intuition is a key way to empower the wise woman that is inside of you. As you go through each day, be mindful of the little urges or twinges that come from within. It might be centered in your gut, a “gut feeling”, or it could be centered in your heart or mind. You may even hear an inner voice that whispers information. Follow it! Actually following through on your gut feelings and intuition’s guidance builds your ability to hear that intuition even louder next time. So next time you get the urge to take a different route home, don’t question it and don’t try to talk yourself out of it – just do it!
  1. Accept your shadow side.
    It is a natural instinct to think of our shadow side as the negative parts of ourself that we want to keep hidden, but that is the opposite of what a wise woman does with her shadow. Carl Jung refers to our shadow as the parts within us that either we don’t like, or we think that society will not like about us, so we reject and hide it away. Learning to face your shadow side with wide open arms of love and acceptance allows for wholeness in life.   1. Release what no longer serves you.
    Getting rid of clutter in your home frees up energy around you that allows the universe to fill that space with something even better and more positive. Do you have items in your home that no longer serve you? Perhaps they have served their purpose already and are now ready to be passed to someone else, or maybe it is simply “junk” that you’ve collected in an attempt to fill an emptiness inside of you that your inner wise woman would like to fill instead.The act of getting rid of clutter in your home directly correlates to opening up energetic space in your mind, body and soul. It is interesting that when there is something we need to release such as negative thinking, or even a relationship that no longer serves us, that act of getting rid of physical objects around us or even just cleaning up the clutter or sweeping out our home lifts and clears the energy and can be a catalyst for empowering our wise woman within.
  1. Learn to say “no”.
    Women are taught from an early age that saying “no” is being selfish. We are taught to serve in all areas of life, and a woman who does not bend over backwards and do as much as possible for others is seen as selfish and self-centered. This is simply not the case, and saying “no” is an important boundary that all women should feel empowered enough to do on a daily basis.Empowering your wise woman within means that sometimes you choose to say “no” to those around you who seek your aid, even if they are family members or friends. This, like everything else on our list, takes practice. Every day, practice saying “no” to something. It does not have to be something earth-shattering, it can be for simple things that really don’t matter if you say “yes” or “no”, but the practice of merely saying these two letters, NO, help to reprogram your subconscious mind that it is perfectly acceptable for you to not do everything you are asked to do every day.
  1. Cultivate a spirit of thankfulness.
    One of the best ways to cultivate a spirit of thankfulness is through a gratitude journal. Writing a list of what you are thankful for on a regular basis gives practice on keeping a much more positive outlook on life despite the circumstances that you may find yourself on any given day. There is always something to be thankful for, though some days may be easier than others. Make it a habit to focus on the positive things around you. A very simple morning ritual to connect with your heart energy center could also help cultivate a spirit of thankfulness. When you rise in the morning, place your hand upon her heart and close your eyes, feeling the energy of your heart chakra. Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe out, say “Thank you.” Do this several times and start your day on the right foot with a spirit of thankfulness!
  1. Ground yourself to feel connected to the wisdom of the Earth.
    Remaining grounded is very important to me, and even in winter, you will find me rarely wearing shoes if I am home. I will walk outside even on cold days just to pull the energy of the Earth up through my bare feet. This is called “earthing” and I feel it is one of my most important spiritual practices. I also have certain crystal necklaces and earrings that keep me grounded throughout the day. Whatever it is that grounds you, whether it be walking barefoot on the Earth, wearing crystals with a connection to the root chakra, meditation, soaking your feet in warm water and epsom salts, remembering to eat several times a day, gardening and getting your hands in the dirt, or moving your body in some way such as yoga, dancing, or exercise these are all great ways to ground yourself so that you can pull up from the earth the great wisdom waiting to be tapped. My three favorite crystals for keeping me grounded through the day are black kyanite, black tourmaline (makes great earrings!) and chrysocolla. Chrysocolla is very heavy, and for me, best serves as a palm stone to keep in my purse.

These are all great ways to start empowering your wise woman within, and they all take practice. You don’t have to eat all your food!

When I talk to hypnosis clients about weight loss, one of the things I hear the most is that as a child, they were told to eat everything on their plate.  In some cases, they would have to sit at the table until everything on their plate was eaten, or they were told they couldn’t have dessert until they ate it all.

This is a great example of how seemingly innocent things from our childhood affects us mind, body and spirit.

Mind
When someone grows up being taught that they cannot leave the table without finishing everything on their plate, they learn to eat beyond the limits of “full”.  Their body may register that they have had enough, but this is where the mind kicks in and no matter what age this person might be, that voice from the past telling them they can’t have dessert, or to remember the starving children whispers to them and they keep eating until it is all gone. This is especially detrimental when eating out, if portions are very large, there are many that still feel the need to eat everything so as not to waste it, or waste the money they used to buy the meal.

Body
Eating everything on your plate affects the body as well. It is interesting to note that the majority of clients that come for weight loss hypnosis all tell me that they were told as a child to eat everything on their plate, and that they still think about that. Many regularly overeat, and this creates many problems in our physical bodies related to being overweight.

Spirit
This resembles a vicious cycle to me, because the mind says “eat every last bit”, which then allows the person to overeat, which causes sickness and being overweight. As if that weren’t enough, our spirit gets involved because then that person may develop problems with self-worth which may affect relationships with others, as well as their spiritual life. When you aren’t being your authentic self, it is very difficult to truly connect to your divine nature.

Action!
Keeping all of this in mind, my recommendation to parents is to allow children to leave at least a bite on their plate. Don’t force them to eat every bite, when they aren’t hungry for it. Don’t reward your children for consuming more than their bodies told them that they needed. Definitely don’t guilt your children by telling them that there are starving children just to get them to eat every bite of their food on their plate, because when you really think about it, what is it really doing to help those starving children if they leave a little on their plate?

If you are an adult that is struggling with this mental baggage from childhood in your weight loss journey, I’ll give you one bit of advice I give my clients – practice leaving a bite on your plate, no matter what it is, or where you are eating.  You have to reprogram your mind that it is perfectly acceptable to only eat as much as your body desires. This can be difficult, I’ve had many clients tell me that they struggle with leaving a bite behind, they may feel wasteful. I’ve given suggestions to do something with the food left behind if necessary such as compost it if you can, feed it to your dogs, or scatter it for the birds. As long as a bite is left on your plate, you are reprogramming your mind, so it doesn’t have to be the tastiest thing on your plate! Just something.

Why hypnosis?

Our mind is so powerful, when we reprogram our subconscious we transform our way of thinking. Hypnosis works because as you relax, your subconscious takes the forefront and listens to the suggestions being given by the hypnotist. Then, when situations arise that trigger the suggestions, your subconscious works to remind you even in the midst of going about your everyday life.

As an example, I had a client that came to me for nail biting. He was iffy about trying hypnosis, but he trusted me and I went through the very simple and very peaceful process of relaxation and then the script including suggestions that would steer him towards not biting his nails any longer. Some of the suggestions were things he could do if he felt the urge to bite his nails. From what he’s told me, it’s been months and he has never bitten his nails again after one session!

Hypnosis is powerful, because your mind is powerful. In many cases, you have to make the change needed, but your subconscious is right there tapping you to remind you of what you want to do all along the way. It’s worth a try!
